When i was little i used to fall lot .There was no one to defeat me in this quest .
First reason was the hilly ways of village which were new to us as you know that my parents moved in village when i was 5 or 6.
Walking on hills with friends was adventure for little girl that had come from big city though . But learning to walk on abrupt steepy ways was hard task.and i was expert failure no doubt.
Second reason was that i was absent mind kind of stupid child who somehow manage to carry her imaginary fairyland along and fail to attend what is before often .
Best part that my often falling was way to amuse my younger sister and cousins who would laugh loud for long time and never forgot to repeat it in gatherings.
I was too foolish to understand reason behind their fun making . Because whenever they had fall i never laughed on them instead i had ran to them and helped them to get up.
There are many legend falls mine ofcourse that have been discussed repeatedly since years by people close to me when ever they got privilege to do so during family gatherings.
Once during my teens me and my sister gathered all the leaves and other trash from frontyard and put it in wide iron plate which we call thaal in native language.
We had used thaal to gather and throw the trash of the house in dawn and dusk. My sister helped me to put thaal on my head and we headed to downhill .
It had rained one day ago and paths were still slippery due to cloudy weather. My head was not stable not because thaal was much heavy but because i was not focused enough as we were busy in chatting during walk.
My right foot suddenly slipped from stone and i fell badly. I was rolling down to the hill and all the trash wrapped over me . In few seconds i was in street below with thorn in my palm and scratches on different parts of my body . But none was serious one .
All i could hear was the bursting laughter of my sister . She when got down was still laughing .When i asked her to stop she laughed more loudly .
She said while laughing " i am not laughing the way you fall but how quickly and seriously you got up without any expression hahaa"
Till today she repeated it many times with same phrase and imagine my stupidity that till today i cannot get what she was saying.
I am scared that you either will think of me so dump when i will tell you that i cannot laugh on many jokes or movie scenes in which people get hurt.
I cannot find them funny i don't know why though i want to ,believe me!
My sons tell me joke often specially the younger one ,but he feels irritated when i express my concern about one who fell or got hurt instead of start laughing which approves that joke was funny .So embarrassing! yea i know .
Is there anything i can do about it ,no because it is in my nature not habit that can be change.
There are more falls that i cannot forget. After ten years i was six months pregnant with my second child.Me hubby and eldest son went to visit my native village in vacations. When train had stopped on platform i was stepping down from steel steps of train exit . I missed the last tow of four . Height was not much but still falling made me feel sick and dizzy for while .
My mother was so stressed about the well being of baby i had within. But this was grace of lord that results of all tests were normal later .
Since almost 30 years i hardly fall or may be because i am more grown up and attentive now. Still i believe anybody can fall any time no matter how careful and precise he is.
Reason for laughing on fall of others can be sensible. As when someone fall most of people laugh spontaneously.
According to Shakespeare their instant reaction of expressing joy comes from sense of learning that IT IS NOT THEM WHO JUST FALL
Which is not comprehensible for me . It is not me who just fall is okay but logically it can happen to me either any time
what do you say ?
I never understood why people laugh when someone falls. But there is comfort in knowing that not everyone does. No blogger would, that is for sure :-)

xo
Same here dear Amalia :)
DeleteI immediately feel as I myself feel there
Just fall like a little waterfall, lol.
ReplyDeleteHappy rest of the week!
Susi
Ah what a lovely phrase my friend :)
DeleteWaterfall falls as cherishing friend indeed
I have heard that it doesn't matter how many times you fall, what matters is how many times you get up, wise isn't it?:) The picture is so funny, have a lovely day my friend:)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely wise dear Natalie ;)
DeleteIt is either said that ONE WHO DARE TO WALK FALLS TO RUN
I's with you Baili, I don't laugh or even think it's funny if someone falls over or hurts themselves in any way. I don't laugh if on TV same happens or similar.
ReplyDeleteAs long as you can get up without being hurt too much after falling is important. As we get older some of us can easily fall.
I agree
Deletebeing old is almost like childhood when it comes to falling
Love the meme. I find it is truer the older I get.
ReplyDeleteI too feel scared when I think of age ahead
DeleteI see people easily get hurt by falling at this part of life
People can be so needlessly cruel when they should be sympathetic instead.
ReplyDeleteCruel or insensitive I think
DeleteFall is hurt and isn't funny, but many compilations of falls tend to be the funniest video that really entertain some people.
ReplyDeleteTake care, Baili!
If you are talking about Charlie Chaplin he makes me laugh too :)
DeleteMy wife has had several hard falls this year. None were funny at all until maybe a day later when we were sure she was not hurt. You may be too sensitive to find humor in someones failure...that is not a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteI used to slip and fall a lot especially late at night, then I quit drinking to excess. Never got hurt, they say God protects little children and drunks.
Haha little children that's me then obviously
DeleteSometimes people laugh at a fall because of nervousness. Sometimes they continue to laugh in relief because the person is okay. Sometimes they are cruel and enjoy the pain of others. There are so many reasons. It can be amusing to tell funny stories at family gatherings. I laugh a lot. Often at silly things that have happened to me. You have read my blog. I have many funny tales to tell. All are told with love.
ReplyDeleteI so enjoy your tales dear Emma
ReplyDeleteI think that there are several reasons why people might laugh after someone falls - shock, relief after they see the person is okay, or because they don't think about how the person is feeling hurt or shook up. Sometimes people make jokes to help the person who has fallen smile again. I need to know the person is okay before anything else. And to laugh because one does not sympathize is very cruel and damaging. It reminds me of the saying "adding insult to injury". It is very unfeeling.
ReplyDeletei agree with explanations you made here dear Jenny specially when young siblings or our children fall we laugh to to make them feel better as if it was not a big deal
Deletehaha this reminds me my younger son's tough reaction when we laughed at his fall he would look at us as we should be ashamed of laughing at him and then he would shout cry louder until we stop and treat him warmly lol
I am very much like you, dearest Baili! When I see someone call, I instinctively rush to help them...and never feel the need to laugh, unless the person him/herself laughs.
ReplyDeleteI used to trip quite a lot too, especially as a child and teenager. My mom used to call me a "Stupid, clumsy child!"...and so every time I did fall I'd feel so embarrassed!
Haha, yes, it is perfectly acceptable to laugh at Charlie Chaplin's mishaps...I just adore those funny movies - and even more so, Laurel and Hardy!😊😊
Lots of love and hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh you were bit like me dear Ygraine :)
Deletelost in your imaginary world and unable to give attention what was right before you
i think most of people with dominating imagination face such problems :)
Laurel and Hardy were my much favorite cartoons and charlie chaplin still makes me laugh
Falling down in films etc can be made to look funny, but often in real life it isn't.
ReplyDeleteI find the older I get the more careful I am when out walking etc.
I did like the picture you've used for this post.
All the best Jan
as we grow old our chances to fall increase i know and they are crucial l and incurable most of the time
DeleteBeing the brunt of someone’s laughter never is ok, it leaves a scar for sure, I understand completely why watching movies of people being laughed at or falling is not comical to you, the scars you carry with you. Your dreamy sensitive nature makes you who you are, a soft gentle caring person, that was a scary fall, missing four steps is a lot! You were lucky you weren’t injured! I’m a bit clumsy as well especially since my eyesight is failing but that makes me more practised at falling lol let’s hope we both stay on our feet! Have a wonderful day ,
ReplyDeleteDear Laurie you are such a strong person
DeleteEyesight loss is great problem but I still find you amazingly firm with your routine and attitude of life which is inspirational indeed
After teenage I fell less but it is there once and while
Though without big harm
Praying for better and healthy old age
I fell when I was pregnant with my first son. It was in a restaurant at a big family dinner. I was so embarrassed, but fortunately no one laughed at me. They just expressed concern and helped me up. I don't laugh when others fall either. I rush instead to help them up and make sure they are all right. I guess I am like you and imagine myself being in their place.
ReplyDeletethis must have been scary situation dear Connie and i can understand why other got worried instead of laugh
Deletefall of pregnant woman cannot be be funny at all
i am grateful that you and your child were safe my dear friend !
Dear Baili, like you, I have never enjoyed jokes or television skits or movies in which we are meant to laugh at others being hurt. Comics doing "pratfalls" do not amuse me. I think that both you and I have vivid imaginations and immediately think of how a person might feel if they fell. It's a response, I think to the universal mortality we all share. Peace.
ReplyDeleteimagination like this is blessing most of the time but painful sometimes dear Dee
Deletei suffered quite period of stress because i was easily fallen on their place who are not so blessed and live in critical conditions due to sickness ,poverty or gender
It is really awful to laugh at falls and other kinds of mishaps.
ReplyDeleteI had a tumor a few years ago which destroyed my vestibular nerve. This I have very bad balance and am prone to falling. One needs to be very careful. As we all get a little older falls can start to cause some very real injuries.
Have a great day!
Oh I am really sorry about your situation dear Brain
ReplyDeleteI was not aware of term actually and just came to my knowledge the difficulty you might have been facing
People of all kinds live in this world
Some with sensitive caring heart and some who seems to be heartless
Enjoying others pain is not blessing indeed
I have never understood why people think a painful fall is funny, but perhaps it is the surprise that makes them laugh sometimes. A "joke" fall can be funny when it is intended to amuse in a comedy show. It is very worrying to feel that you might fall though. I had a problem with my ankle last year (a tendon) and I didn't like that feeling of anxiety when I was getting better. People would think I was nearly OK but actually I knew I might fall. Luckily it's OK now.
ReplyDeleteI think it is hard to find person in world who did not fall once or more than once dear Jenny
ReplyDeleteGlad that your fall was not serious one which is quite fortunate I believe
Falling down can look funny, ,but it isn't!! I am so sorry for all the bad falls you've had Baili! Big Hugs!
