Hmm, very difficult topic,I am not a fan of a censirship at all, however as a new mom I am much more frightened about some dangerous images online and in TV. Have a lovely weekend ☺☺
early exposure can be disastrous for innocent minds dear Natalia and being mom it is our one of the biggest concern is that how can we save our kids from such negative and dangerous impact that media is causing unnecessarily
i been watching movies ,shows ,dramas and reading books ,magazines and digests since i was a child
if i compare those to what is available today on media i have to say that things can be attractive and powerful without adding display of nudity ,sex or violence .
Someone has to control what’s being put out there in the world, just because someone can do things doesn’t make them right, I fear for the path our world is on, we seem to have lost respect for ourselves as humans,
We see too much of everything these days. But the problem with censorship is that it gives power to someone else to decide what we see. I don't trust someone else.
Fascinating and controversial topic. I am against censorship. I do not think that it ever leads to any good. I think that there has been a lot of research that indicates that exposure to these things in the media to young children does not have any detrimental effect on them.
The best argument for censorship I think is true hate speech. That is, calling entire groups of people dehumanizing names. But even when governments ban that stuff, the laws seem to get misused to ban all sorts of other types of speech.
Fascinating and controversial topic. Thanks for bringing it up. Have a great day Baili!
Censorship is based on someone's feelings of what is right and what is wrong. It is not up to one person or group of persons to decide for everyone. On that basis I reject censorship. I choose not to watch, read, or vies the things I find distasteful. I also believe that a parent should guide children so they will not have to view, read, or experience things that would be harmful or confusing. That is the censorship I condone. This is an interesting topic that invites serious thought.
I believe in freedom of speech. Unfortunately, that means sometimes I come across things I would rather not see, hear, or read. I am absolutely against censorship, because I don't want my speech to be curtailed, nor that of anyone else. That's where control by government or religion comes in, and freedom is lost. As an elementary teacher, I was judicious in what I shared with my elementary children, but I always told the truth. I am not a parent, but I believe parents have a responsibility to shield their children from inappropriate material, and as an adult I choose what I will expose myself to. The conundrum, of course, is what does a media outlet do with live video streaming of sexual acts or violence and murder? I have no easy answer for that, but I will come down on the side of free speech and choose not to expose myself to such things and choose not to buy any products that are advertised with such content. And if a parent, I would know and control what my children were exposed to. I would also teach them about free speech and censorship and, hopefully, teach them to evaluate media critically. Great question, my friend! Have a good one! Sending you a big hug!
I do not like censorship but i think things should be given a rating and people are aware of what they are about to see and if under 18 yes censorship is a good idea. Merle........
That is a difficult topic. I do believe measures need to be taken to protect our children, but it is difficult to know when to draw the line as far as what adults can and cannot see.

ReplyDeleteThe last line of your comment says it all dear Laurie!
DeleteWe have lost respect for ourselves as humans
We are misusing freedom which is really devastating .
We are failed so badly to keep things in balance so far

ReplyDeleteI believe that media can play most important role in shaping any society
DeleteBecause it is human nature that we learn what we see , hear or read
Media got power to influence our lives good or bad either way
Before media a society is like a curious child
It is up to media that how he mould this child to any direction ,specially kids and youngsters
We find an uncontrollable flood of blood shed violence and adult content now days WHICH IS NOT NECESSARY FOR SURE
We are witness of the era when movies, dramas, shows and print media survived without any of such vulgarity or violence
These writers , directors and markers playing role of surgeon who are peeling the wounds instead stitching or curing them
You make very good points, Baili.

ReplyDeleteRegardless of what is out there, I can control what I see. I fear for our children and young people who will be formed by such uncensored materials.

ReplyDeleteMerle........
We should be able to see things as they really are, not told what we can see or hear.
ReplyDeleteFreedom is what I like to have, freedom of choice.
Very good question. I do not like censorship.
