Irrfan Khan A Unique Star That died Early But His Light will Take Ages To Fade Away!

Irrfan Khan an Indian  died  on 29th of April .We  were  resting after lunch when my younger son came closer with phone in his hand and told that  "Irrfan khan has died"

It was unexpected and  traumatic news .He  was just 53 .He could have  done so much in  last  few decades of his life .In March  2018  he was diagnosed with neuroendocrine  tumor  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irrfan_Khan.

Hubby and me both shared great likening for him  since we were young . Actually we  both  prefer "real" cinema over the commercial one. It was easy to relate with . Though we also admire commercial movies that  lighten our moods and share  not just "what  is  life " but "The way life should be"and specially they have specific touch of  romance and spirituality (Indian Pakistani and some romantic and fantasy Hollywood movies)  that leaves audiences with lifted spirit and ever lasting hope for goodness and God !

Non commercial or real cinema dares to reveal  dark cruel ground realities of life. This is why  they choose actors  with unconventional  look  unlike to commercial movie hero , to whom c spectator  can connect well .Such movies are gross  but hardly gain common audience attention .Still they stand higher  than commercial cinema and are  acknowledged and appreciated by critics and sensible  cinema lovers .Both commercial and serious cinema have different kind of frames obviously which  have different demands  for their presentation.

Yet Irrfan  khan  was someone special who fitted to both frames  amazingly. He  started his career with  less popular medium but his shine  was not meant to  be restrained  by mediums or boundaries . It  was gift to share with all who had admiration for  deep work meaningful   work  on big screen. It was big deal for actor who was not backed by any lineage in film industry .From 2001 to 2020 he acted in more than one hundred  national and international movies  and won many awards for his work . He also appeared in some Hollywood movies like Amazing Spiderman ,Inferno ,Life of pie ,Jurassic Park ,one the HBO series In Treatment etc . He won Screen Actors Guild Award  for  giving outstanding performance as police officer In  block buster Slumdog Millionaire . An  English  film director Danny Boyle  adored him  with  these words meanwhile  "he has an instinctive way of  finding  moral center of any character " Danny compared him to an" athlete who can execute  the same move  Perfectly over and over"  One of  my favorite  movie is "The Namesake " a touching story of Indian couple who try to adjust in foreign country and their son struggle to find his identity, Beautifully made and enchanting performance by him and co actors.

He had magnetic  personality and  his on screen appearance  was charismatic . He  seemed a wonderful package of all ingredients that are essential to appeal  audience . He had powerful  speaking eyes  that reflected  the strength of  knowledge he had within. He also had magically compelling voice  that unrevealed  the metaphysical  meaning of ordinary lines .There are rare  actor who despite playing side roll  not just steal away  all your attention with their poignant  presence  and  infuse  themselves as central point.  Words through  dropping through their mouth  weigh more.

Irrfan was a lucky actor who had ability to won heart of audience instantly . He was someone whom people needed to stay and entertain his fans more and for long because he was Exceptional person and excellent actor. He was witty ,smart and intellectual  who tried hard to avoid work in Light weighted   movies . He had sensitive heart  and therefore when he found in 2018 that he has cancer he wrote a letter and let it out in public for his fans. You can  see  this by clicking   his letter here .It touched soul deeper each time i read it .
I want to write about him for long but i don't have words or insight.I am glad i was in time period so i could know him .

Thank you for reading friends ,may be you find it irreverent but i think we all love to know about people who inspire with their work and expressions . And it is always good to learn about such treasure people !

  3. What a nice tribute. His death was in the news here in Canada too. I remember him most from the movie "Life of Pi."

  4. I've heard the name, but did know why, then I don't know the manes of any actor since Jimmy Stewart. I would probably recognize his pictures. Anyway that is way too young. Very sad as it seems he has brought joy to many lives. Talent is one thing, more important is to just be a good person. Sounds like he had both.

  8. I read that he had passed away, it's tough when he was young and had so much to give. May he rest in peace. It does makes us think about our own mortality. He will be alive in the hearts of his fans.

  11. It is so sad when a good, decent, and talented person dies an early death. The things he could have contributed to the world in the future, and the joys he could have known and shared, will never be realized now. His letter was indeed touching and has given me food for thought, especially in these times of the coronavirus when we all must face our mortality as a real and immediate possibility. It is good that his body of work will remain to be viewed by and to move future generations. Film allows some people to live beyond their lifespan.

    1. your comment is beautiful dear Jenny

so true that an early death of good person is great loss for who will miss him and for himself ,spaces that remain unfulfilled no matter how hard we try to fill them
here is a saying that says that Lord picks up the good souls sooner than others ,sometimes even i think if my death will define my being more than my life :) (joking probably)
i too am touched by his words in his letter and i think it was his quite a contribution to people who know and loved him ,he left behind some of his soul's light which illuminates our dark thoughts with striking strength and positivism he had ,we need it more now days

  12. Like many others, I was familiar with Irrfan Khan by reading about some of his work, but I had never seen any of these productions. Regardless of his popularity, it is truly sad when such talented and relatively young people are dying from this virus. Thank you for sharing your feelings here.
