Sindh ‘s Cultural Art , Paintings From Sukkur City Wall

Hey Beautiful Souls ♥️

Hope finding goodness in your days despite the difficult times!

First of all big big thanks for your generous comments on my previous post. We have been quite busy with having guests and being guests after Eid.

Family posts specially one where whole family is present are very important to me because I write my blog like a diary and when I miss my children living away such posts are great help in healing to  a mother’s heart 🥹 Along with this reading your sweet comments creates balming affect 🥹 So thank you very much for your generosity♥️

Today I am going to share some really beautiful photos of our Sindh cultural art . Actually when we visited the Mohatta palace I saw some nice paintings and I wanted to share them with you but taking pictures was not allowed there sadly. But luckily when we visited Sukkur around a month back I was more than happy to see some really cool art on the city wall close to the park . I requested hubby if he can pull the motorcycle over so I can take photos. ( it’s not considered “appropriate “ for a lady to take photos while standing on roadside alone particularly but I have my husband along so wasn’t that big deal) We have come farther from the wall when I said so but hubby turned the bike immediately and parked on the road side close to footpath and art wall.Men passing by were looking but I clicked quickly and left . Finding these dream paintings was another joy but being able to take photos like that was exceptionally exciting feeling 🤗 thanks to my dear hubby who always supported me for my basic right as a woman 🥰 . I feel grateful to have such open minded life partner who has enlightened soul unlike so many of others here . I hope you will enjoy my very first post having art that reflects rural culture here in Sindh province in southern Pakistan.

Quilting is mainly popular  in women living in rural areas. When we travel by main road to Sukkur city forty minutes motorcycle ride from home we see such shops in abundance on both sides of the road where beautiful and colourful quilted sheets are hanging.they look so pretty and appealing to eyes. Once hubby has inquired about the price and it was triple than we buy from village women. To be honest this level of hardworking deserve more . I myself personally have paid for my purchases little more but still it’s not enough I believe.

I heard from elders that pottery was great source of income and important way for  creative people to express their delicate feelings and ideas, but with time and modern techniques and new methods expression  pottery has been restricted by professional artists only. I personally haven’t seen any extraordinary pottery display around here , just simple pottery without colour and more complex designs . I would love to  see how this beautiful job of creating stunning pottery is done. Specially the complicated art rich in hews.

When i visit my sisters in law I have seen women sitting like that and quilting , sometimes alone and sometimes some ladies together. Years of experience brings them confidence enough to keep quilting while chatting or discussing serious family matters. At this part of age it’s nice to realise that no matter how different people are economically ,culturally socially ,life treats everyone equally when it comes to have their share of joys ,sorrows or challenges. Everyone no matter where they live creates living out of whatever available resources are and go through ups and downs. Art is a way to express personal ideas and feelings through delicate ways of creativity, and Creator has been so fair to bless people with this gift regardless of their circumstances. It allows them to “feel” life which is equally important to just live it physically.

I think this is impressive how artist has tried to reflect her sense of accomplishment and serenity on her face 🥰  She seems to achieve what she wanted and looks happy with that 👍 I feel that love for aesthetics in human nature is distributed fairly throughout the world because from rich to poor ,free to imprisoned, gender to gender and  young to old it is presented everywhere. Humans are not just inventors but they are creators as well and their longing for aesthetic motivates them to create something special which can please their senses and whenever they feel exhausted with life’s challenges they can look back at them and drive pleasure from them to nurture their souls!

She looks very serious ,determined and focused because her delicacy of her job demands it , sometimes I feel that people who can sit quietly with some project and spend hours in this they are true heroes and one of the types among two who oppose each other in nature.

Summers are perfect for such huge projects because of long days. Even though joint family system no longer exists in villages like before. still there are many families who live combined like two of my sisters in law who are married to two brothers living together. This togetherness is pretty handy when it comes to quilt something for professional reason. One of my sisters in law (hubby’s sister) has seven daughters, not all of them but two or three participate in such activities and make good money for their personal use. It’s common in villages.

This  is beautiful map of our country Pakistan , artist has to display different colours of Pakistani culture in this  .isn’t it delightful?  This map is happy face of my country and it makes me happy to look at it 🥰

This is one of the most commonly found art in my homeland actually, my late aunt (my mother’s sister and my mother’s brother) owned three trucks when I was little. It made me look closely how trucks art was important for not just truck owners but for the drivers too. Even though new kinds of long vehicles have become popular old trucks are still used for long route transportation. It’s long time observation that these trucks are decorated specifically . I think someone who thought it was sure that he is going to miss his home so he wanted his vehicle to accompany him not just as a vehicle but a friend to whom he can cherish as beloved holding symbols and images of things he is going to leave behind for the brief period of time 😔 So truck decorations become as popular that seeing one truck without it was something utterly rare. I acknowledge that today when I travel I specially look for the truck because it connects me to the chain of beautiful memories from my childhood to till day . Along with various destinations like pendants ,chains, lights and ribbons that add vibrancy and delight to the journey trucks are known for playing music that is heartfelt and touching to listeners! There are numerous vehicles on the roads but none had such rich and distinctive history like truck ,it’s more than a vehicle,it’s a tradition 🥹

If  I got it right,in this beautiful painting artist is trying to say that everyone is equal in the eyes of law , after saying that I am wondering if law has eyes ,why justice is blind?

I must confess that my sweet drawing teacher was never happy with  the camel I would draw in my primary grades 😭 she was such a devoted teacher that she wouldn’t give up and keep me guiding me encouraging but no matter what i would try it would turn into something else except camel 😂 therefore this camel looks sooo beautiful to me 🥹♥️♥️♥️  I feel fascinated by this majestic creature who has gift for storing water for his lengthy journeys in  the desert 🥹 God is so kind and breathtakingly thoughtful for making him for people who live in the desert 🙏♥️

This is shrine of local saint of old Sukkur in 16th century originally was from Baghdad Iraq,he settled in Sindh province to spread Islam.  Despite this painting was old rusted I loved how beautifully it was made ♥️ I believe saints were the quiet and selfless ambassadors of religion. They delivered true message of love and unity to the people and tried to unite unlike religious leaders who divided them always to use for their personal gain like politicians . Do you think so too ?

I loved this art because it shows one of my most favourite things, plantation 🥰 I believe if you have a loving heart who wants to share his love with others you have to plant a tree 🥹 it’s very beautiful way to say I care for you 🥹♥️🙏

Thank you precious friends for bearing with me till here 🙏♥️

Sending love and heartfelt prayers for your health, peace and happiness

  1. What beautiful murals! I love them all, especially the ones celebrating the skill and artistry of women quilters, potters, and artists! The decorated truck is gorgeous too and the happy camel! We have a local business here in Edmonton called The Happy Camel that makes and sells delicious pita bread and dips like hummus, etc.

Yes, Justice has eyes but is represented as blindfolded to demonstrate that she cannot see any difference between rich and poor, men and women, old and young, white and non-white, etc. It's another way of saying Justice treats people equally. Well, that's the theory, anyway.

    1. Dear Debra heartfelt thank you for your uplifting words!
It truly makes me happy that you enjoyed these paintings or murals because I waited so long find such an art around here .I never visited any art gallery nor we have any in this small city. So it was so exciting to see them on city wall and having opportunity to take photos 🤗

Dear friend I have seen lots and lots of injustice throughout my life, numerous people are victims of unspeakable crimes and violence. once my late father who liked reading news and articles as hobby had told that according to research done by an N G O in our country more than half of the prisoners in jails are innocent and most of them are there without facing any trial even.
We claim that we humans have become civilised and well educated but the world we are living in telling something else that even today we are living in jungle where power rules more than anything. And law brings justice to all equally remains a theory.

  5. The paintings are beautiful. Art of artwork is a wonderful idea and presented so lovingly. My thought about justice is that law must have eyes to see what happened. Justice is blind so it can make its rulings on facts rather than to see how important or unimportant a person looks.

    1. Dear Emma, law is designed by people who aren’t perfect.as far as I know corrupt people prevail in institutions holding authorities and it becomes easier for them to turn law in their favour then. Money is easiest way for manipulating systems, where it’s not working blackmailing, threats and other forms of corruption are done to keep power in hand.

  9. Thank you for sharing this art, it's beautiful, all of it depicting real life, creativity and so full of colour, I particularly like the truck art! I felt a little sad to read that women in your part of the World are frowned upon for taking photographs at the roadside, it's so much fun! there's so much of everyday life to capture and it must be so frustrating to have to restrain yourself and think first whether it is appropriate. Im glad you have a husband who appreciates and respects you and understands the importance of our own creative pursuits. Betty

    1. Thanks dear friend Betty for your lovely comment,it really means lot to me ♥️🙏

Yes even though things are changing slowly and women of today are far more liberal than women thirty years back yet there are boundaries still for women when it comes to enjoy life freely in outdoors.it’s still a dream for all the women here . Despite many men have different perspective now and want their family women to have more freedom but religious and cultural values hold them back as because they think that those rules were designed so women can be safe.
I don’t see any difference in women’s life honestly when it comes to their safety as a woman,no matter where they live they always face specific challenges.
I feel utterly blessed because I have life partner who has sensitive heart and enlightened mind, who has ability to realise what it feels to be in another’s shoes. It makes him special, most beautiful and amazing person to me 🥹🥰

  13. Baili, all of these are so beautiful and it is very interesting to read your thoughts accompanying them. I have to admit that the camel is my favorite as well as the gorgeous shrine. For us Western women it is hard to accept that you as a woman can't even take photos on the side of the road without getting odd looks. That is really sad, and how good for you that your husband is so much more open minded and you feel supported by him.

  14. Dear friend Carola !
It’s generous of you to visit and leave kind words!

Your comment me look at this whole situation from my excitement to find such artistic paintings and to get opportunity to capture them in simplistic way as I have simplistic approach towards life. I think as a women I realise that we the women of developing countries living in restricted circumstances are poor when it comes to freedom, unlike you and other blog friends who live in liberal societies and have freedom to choose and move . This poverty is not economical but of perception and enlightenment.
I believe things will be different and hopefully better in far future 🤞

  16. Dear Baili, thank you for sharing these beautiful murals with us. Having art in our everyday environment, for example on a city wall, is important. My favourites are the women creating beauty and, like yours, the image where trees are planted. Yes, planting flowers and especially trees is love. :)
I'm happy to read you are enjoying a beautiful spring. Where I live we don't have flowers yet but it's already rather warm and there's much light.
Thank you for your friendship. Stay safe and well! 🤗❤️

  17. Dear friend Sara!
Heartfelt thanks for your lovely words ♥️

I completely agree with you on that having art around in everyday life keeps our spirits elevated and joyful because when our minds are exhausted with physical struggles of the life ,it’s only our soul that needs nurture and healing to feel relieved 🥰
Art surly makes huge difference in this way.
Like you I am deeply in love with nature and trees and I really wish I can have liberty to travel different parts of our homeland and plant as much trees as possible 🥹 they are most kind and best friend of humans 🥰
Finland is very beautiful and most happy place in the world dear friend and deserves all the blessings in this world 🥰 I hope your weather continues to stay nice and warm and may spring flourish in your land sooner 🙏♥️
